Ebay
I've got a few items up on ebay. This is, in part, a regular event for me...culling out the stuff I'm not using, trying to keep myself down to equipment I actually use, and not becoming a "collector." I'm finding this excercise to be more and more difficult as the years go by. It seems more cameras have sentimental value to me...even when they should not. Part of the problem is that some of my stuff is just cheap and I think, "Why sell it? I'll only get $50 or so, and isn't it a nice little camera to look at and hold once in a while?"
Yea, that's just the sort of thinking that little old ladies with 73 cats indulge in. I'm fighting it, I really am.
So, here are the items I have listed and why they are up for sale:
Kowa Komaflex 4x4cm SLR. It uses 127 film and still works pretty
well. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to focus accurately for the close up, narrow dof shots I envisioned using it for. I'm going to take a bath on this one. It was an impulse buy that cost me more than I'll be able to sell it for. That's pretty rare for a cheap bastard such as myself.
Polaroid Back for Graflex XL Rangefinder System. My main pinhole camera is based on the Graflex XL rangefinder system. I love it. I don't particularly love polaroid pinholes though. I used to have a Graflex XLSW (super wide) version of this camera, with a real lens. Now that I've let go of that lightly used camera, there's no reason to keep the polaroid back.
Graflex 4x5 Focus Panel I bought this for my 4x5 pinhole project. Turns out that the graflok back on that camera isn't quite "graflok." The standard focusing panel and film holders will not work. I'll be lucky to make my money back on this one too. Dang.
Minolta Himatic 7SII This is a nice little rangefinder camera. Sharp lens, fast at f1.7. Plenty capable. I bought this as one of my first rangefinders. Since then, I've moved on to more modern and more capable cameras and I just don't use it. I'll make a few bucks on this one, considering I bought it some years ago and have put some work in to it. I'll be sorry to see this one go (see my comments above).
I'm considering getting rid of my Iskra and a Sears 35mm RF camera. Yes, Sears. It's a rebadged Ricoh and a very capable little thing. Smaller even than the Minolta Himatic 7SII but with a slower lens. It's another thing I just don't use.
The Iskra is redundant to my Balda folder, which I like just a little better. Even so, it's a hard one to let go of.
Other News
I got caught up in a surge of generosity over at Rangefinderforum.com. Someone started a give away thread (this has happened before) and soon there were very many pages of people offering really nice things that they no longer use. I'm happy to see this sort of thing when it happens and try to join in. The good will it creates makes a forum a satisfying place to be.
So, I donated an old Balda 35mm rangefinder a few filters and even an old scanner. None of it was worth much for resale, but it'll be appreciated by folks who do not have nice, unused gear just laying around.
